Privacy Policy

Last updated 25 September 2026

widgetopia is run by Watch Faces & Widgets Ltd (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the widgetopia apps for iPhone and Android and the widgetopia.io website. We collect as little as we can: most of what makes widgets work, such as your steps, calendar and battery, never leaves your phone.

What we collect

  • Your account, if you make one: email address, user name and password (stored only as a secure hash). You only need an account to publish widgets or keep a profile; browsing and using widgets doesn’t need one.
  • Your profile, if you fill it in: photo, bio and links to your website and social accounts. These are shown publicly on your designer page.
  • Widgets you publish: the widget file, its images and fonts, preview pictures, and the name, description and tags you give it. Published widgets are public.
  • Basic server logs: when the apps or the website ask our server for something, it records the request and IP address to keep the service running and secure. These logs are kept only briefly.

What stays on your phone

  • Steps, distance and calories come from Apple Health on iPhone and the step sensor on Android. They’re used only to draw your widgets and are never sent to us or anyone else.
  • Calendar events for agenda widgets are read on your phone and never leave it.
  • Battery level, time and date, and the widgets you save, customise or import, stay on your phone unless you choose to publish or share them.
  • Photos you pick are only uploaded if you publish a widget that uses them or set one as your profile photo.

Location, for weather

Weather widgets need to know roughly where you are. If you allow it, the app sends your approximate location to our server, which rounds it to about 1 km and asks the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (met.no) for the forecast. We don’t store your location or link it to your account, and it isn’t used for anything but the forecast.

Purchases

Pro features are bought through the App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google handle the payment; we never see your card details, only whether a purchase is valid.

Advertising

The apps show ads, served by advertising partners such as Google AdMob. To choose and measure ads, these partners may collect your device’s advertising identifier, IP address, approximate location derived from it, and information about how you interact with the ads. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent first, and you can change your choice at any time in the app. On iPhone, ads are only personalised if you allow tracking when iOS asks; on Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone’s settings. The partners’ own privacy policies explain how they use this data, for example how Google uses data from apps that use its services.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t sell your personal data.
  • We never share your health, steps or calendar data with anyone, including advertisers; it never leaves your phone.
  • Your location for weather is used only for the forecast, never for ads.

Who processes data for us

Our servers and database are hosted on DigitalOcean. Widget files and images are stored with Amazon Web Services (S3) and delivered through Cloudflare. Account emails, such as password resets, are sent through Amazon SES. These providers only process data on our behalf. Advertising partners are described above.

How long we keep it

We keep your account for as long as you have it. You can delete your account at any time from the Account page in the app or on the website. Deleting it takes down your profile and published widgets; widgets people have already added to their phones keep working on their phones. If you sign up again later with the same email, your account can be brought back; if you’d rather everything was erased for good, email us and we’ll do it.

Your rights

You can see and change your account details on the Account page. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to erase it, by emailing [email protected]. If you’re in the UK or EU you have these rights under data protection law, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

widgetopia isn’t aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has made an account, email us and we’ll remove it.

Changes

If we change this policy we’ll update it here and change the date at the top. See also our Terms of Service.
